Our Seventh Season:

Exaudi: Hear my Voice
March 10, 2012
The de Angelis Vocal Ensemble explores the riches of music inspired by music in a dramatic concert Exaudi: Hear My Voice. Composers have been inspired by music for centuries. On this program experience what composers have to say about the muse that inspires. To continue with this theme of music as an inspiration for creativity, the de Angelis Vocal Ensemble has commissioned local composer, and Grammy winner, JAC Redford to compose a musical response to an individual work on the program. Music from the Renaissance, contemporary works and a commission; a richly cast program!

Fairest Flowers
June 2, 2012
Possibly the most powerful miracle is the arrival of Spring, the greening and flowering of the earth after a bleak winter, the wonder of creation. Nature inspires art and the vivid color and ravishing beauty of Spring is ever present in this program; Fairest Flowers. In this final program of our season we discover how nature and the beauty of flowers has inspired and captured the hearts of poets and composers alike. For who could dislike the beauty of a flower?

Past Performances:
Critical Mass: Two Performances!
October 22 and 23, 2011
Our season begins with Critical Mass featuringFrank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir. Martin’s Mass for unaccompanied double chorus was written in 1922: early in his life he was not sure of its value; he had called it a “youthful sin” and withheld it from performance until 1962 and from publication until 1972! Since its publication, it has emerged as one of the greatest twentieth-century Mass settings for unaccompanied chorus. We are pleased to present this program in two historic locations; our home at the historic Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano and as the opening performance to the season at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles.

Annual Holiday Concert
December 3, 2011
For the past six years the de Angelis Vocal Ensemble has presented Orange County residents with a Holiday Program containing undiscovered gems, premieres of new works, and traditional carols freshly cast into new musical arrangements. Spreading Christmas cheer is our prime motivation and in doing so, we find great importance in giving back to our local community. For our December 2011 concert, in addition to providing the community with an eclectic Christmas program, we will be working with Toys for Tots, an organization that has been providing Christmas toys to children since 1947. Join us, Toys for Tots and our local Marine Corps to increase our ability to give back to the community at this very special time of year. Our Fifth Season
Shakespeare - The Eternal Bard:

Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano
31520 Camino Capistrano
San Juan Capistrano, CA
This program celebrates, in sound, the creative union of Shakespeare’s timeless words and the powerful voices of today’s composers. These composers have taken inspiration from Shakespeare’s words and have set them with great care, much as a jeweler works with precious metals to enhance the brilliance of a precious stone. Featured on this program are the Shakespeare Songs of Matthew Harris, plus the rarely performed Songs of Ariel by the Swiss composer Frank Martin.
Claudio, O Claudio
Saturday, March 6th, 2010 at 8:00pm
If one were to name the composer that stitches the seam between the Renaissance and the Baroque, it would likely be Claudio Monteverdi. So popular were his books of madrigals, a close friend of Monteverdi’s, Aquilino Coppini, replaced the secular texts with those of sacred verse. These works are charged with emotion – a sensuous world of passion and pain, original and innovative for the time and incredibly contemporary nearly four hundred years later.
The Annual Holiday Concert
Pasadena on Friday, December 18th, 2009 at 8pm and at the Basilica in San Juan Capistrano on December 20th, 2009.
By far the most popular of our programs, this year we will explore the wealth of Christmas music from our Canadian neighbors of the north. Featuring contemporary and classic Christmas music by Canada's best loved composers and arrangers, this program is always one of the best holiday experiences in Orange County.
The Road Home
Saturday, November 9th, 2009 at 8:00pm.
Early November marks the convergence of several dates both civic and sacred. The Feasts of All Saints, All Souls and Veterans Day all share a common theme of remembrance. This program is a celebration of these days and of the ones who have gone before us marked with a sign of peace. Herbert Howells’ Requiem is the cornerstone of this program – a work that was written as release and consolation upon the loss of Howell’s only son. We will honor our loved ones during this program, with a balm only music can provide.
